Better late then never I suppose. Being sick sucks.
The first mix I used alot of maxim and eq1 on a couple of different instruments. I changed around the sound of the snare and bass drum with a couple of different effects to give it a little more power [...]
This mix, I equalized and balanced everything as I have done in past assignments. This time though, I worked with the percussion and the other instruments with vocals separately. Whenever I hear a piano in a song, I feel that it is supposed to be the clarity, whether through a clear strike of [...]
This is the final time I will have to listen to this song, so naturally I kissed the ground when I finished leveling it out and mixing it. Yay!
For this mix, I leveled out all of the audio and equalized it, letting me have a base to work with. I [...]
I went through a process very similar to the one used in class to create my mix. I added, part by part into the piece until all parts were present. I started with the voice, where i eq boosted his higher range. Then i got the snare drum [...]
I basically equed almost everything, trying to bring out warmth while still making sure everything still had its own place in the mix and punchyness. I also compressed quite a few of the instruments for mainly dynamic control. Some gates were used for the various kit instruments trying to get more isolation. [...]
final_noeffects For the final mix I practically changed everything that I did on the previous mixes, the levels, eq, panning, compression to get a better separation of the instruments and to make some things sound better. I drew some crazy curves on the eq and maybe compressed some things a little too much, but I [...]
Lead vocal: compressor at -27dB with fast attack, fast release, and +3dB gain. I did this to make the lead vocal stronger and more vibrant while eliminating the doubling track to avoid out-of-syncness.
Backup vocals: set the volume 2dB below the lead vocal and added a compressor with no gain and long release.
[...]
- to put finishing touches on my piece I cleared up the drums by adding a better eq and compressor. also I decided to buss the vocal similar to what we completed in class. As I listened to it there were a few places that seemed to be problematic but after [...]
After the class we had on gating, I couldn’t contain myself, I had to go back and use the gating techniques you taught us for the drums. I don’t think anything could have cleaned up my sound better than that. The drums sound so crisp now. I tweaked the EQ on them here and there, [...]
For this mix, I wanted to see how I could apply some of the concepts we learned in class this past week to what I had already prepared. I found that the amount of attention and detail paid to the snare sparked my interest so I went back and took another look [...]
