Dynamics
dynamics0 On the first mix I only applied compression to the guitars and voices to reinforce the foregroung. I removed the automation that I had done on the vocals to try to solve the variation of volume through compression. On this one I didn’t use the presets and just tweaked the settings till I found it sounded right. I also used de-essing on the vocals.
dynamics On this mix I applied compression to everything. I started with the presets and then tweaked the settings till I got a good sound, I also followed some of the books recommendations as using slow attacks and fast releases to get a more aggressive sound on some tracks, higher compression on guitars, de-essing around 4 to 6 kHz. I believe the compression really helped to bring the drums higher in the mix without getting in the way of the rest of the instruments.
