Biography:
Gary Powell is a second-year master’s student in Texas A&M’s Department of Performance Studies. His thesis work centers on heavy metal performers and their use of humor to interact with their social worlds. In addition to his role as a graduate student, he serves as the department representative for the Graduate Student Council, hosts a popular music discussion series entitled “PopMusing”, and serves as production director for DanceCult: Academic Journal of Electronic Dance Music.
Upon completion of the program, Gary will be pursuing an M.B.A. at a university closer to his Midwestern home of Bowling Green, Ohio. Upon entry into a business program, he plans to integrate his education in social theory to address relationships between business, employees, community, and society. To this end, he intends to specialize in socially responsible entrepreneurship and management.
