Biography:

Elizabeth Melton graduated magna cum laude from Texas A&M University with B.A.’s in English and Theatre (2010). While at Texas A&M, Elizabeth completed an honors thesis, “The Color Lavender: Audience Reception, Adaptation, and Performance of the The Color Purple,” as an undergraduate research fellow and a member of the Liberal Arts Honors program. She also served as MSC OPAS Chair 2009-2010, directed in the first Student New Works Festival, participated in several departmental productions, and is currently a member of Phi Beta Kappa.

After graduation Elizabeth worked for ArtsView Children’s Theatre and the Resident Ensemble Players at the University of Delaware. Elizabeth also worked at the Texas Shakespeare Festival the previous two summers (2010 & 2011) and served as the festival’s first-ever dramaturg in 2011.

Now returned to Texas A&M, Elizabeth is a first-year M.A. student in the Department of Performance Studies. Her current research interests are performances of whiteness, specifically at Texas A&M, and other intersecting performances of race.
