Biography:
Chris Harrell is in his third year with the Department of Performance Studies. Harrell is the event coordinator for all music and theater performance events, is the department’s public information officer, and manages the department’s main office in addition to various other responsibilities.
He spent more than 10 years working as both an administrative assistant then assistant media relations director in the Texas A&M athletic department, in charge of sports such as men’s and women’s swimming & diving, equestrian, archery, and men’s and women’s cross country and track & field while also assisting with game day operations in football, men’s and women’s basketball, and soccer among others. Harrell also served as the contact in charge of cross country and track & field, rifle and volleyball while earning his bachelor’s degree in communication at the University of Texas at El Paso.
Harrell published more than 30 media guides during his 15-year career in athletic media relations, winning ‘Best in the Nation’ honors more than 10 times from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Harrell played a vital role in the administration of the 2004 and 2009 NCAA Women’s Swimming & Diving Championships as well as the 2002, 2005, and 2007 Big 12 Swimming & Diving Championships and the 2003 Varsity Equestrian National Championships. Harrell was named the Sports Information Director of the Year by Swimming World Magazine in April of 2009 and had his women’s swimming & diving book named Media Guide of the Year the same month as well.
In his spare time, Harrell, a College Station native, serves as the news editor for CollegeSwimming.com, is the statistical coordinator for the National Collegiate Equestrian Association, announces Texas A&M swimming & diving and equestrian home events, and is an active member of Young Professionals of Aggieland.
