Biography:

I am Amber Wicks, a former “super” Jacksonian. I was born and raised in Jackson, Mississippi and earned a B.A. in English Education from Jackson State University. I was lured to the state of Texas by Texas A&M’s performance studies program because it provided a space for me to pursue a career that is as artistic as it is academic and diverse. Also, I wanted to be surrounded by people who enjoy discussing and analyzing performance as much as I do.

My research interests lie in the large area of dance, but I am specifically interested in the similarities or differences between the meaning of dance in African/Carribean cultures and African-American culture. I am also particularly intrigued by the role and meaning of dance in the African-American community on Texas A&M campus.
